About

Although not from a horsey background, Tom was always obsessed by horses and at the age of 9 begged his parents to buy him a pony. He joined the Dartmoor Pony Club with his horse Lily and knew that horses would be his life.

After two years Tom outgrew Lily and his parents vowed never to buy another horse or pony. This made Tom even more determined.

At 16 Tom left school to study a National Diploma in Horse Management at Duchy College. It was here that Tom met a lot of like minded people and gained his BHS AI (Assistant Instructor) qualification. Tom was top student of the year two years running and gained a distinction for his National Diploma. The staff were fantastic at Duchy and the support they offered in progressing each individuals riding skills is something that Tom will never forget.

After completing his AI qualification Tom worked at Fitzworthy Riding Centre, Ivybridge Plymouth, where he gained his teaching hours.

At 18 Tom gained a place at Hartpury College to read for a BSC(Hons) in Equine Science. During his time at Hartpury Tom worked for event riders Frances Hooper Smith, Peter Scudamore and local event rider Emma Wilesmith. In his first year Tom saved up his student lan to buy his first event horse Killkenny King.

After 3 years of partying and studying Tom graduated, also gaining his BHS Stage 4 and IT (intermediate Teaching) qualification, and then started lecturing Further Education at Hartpury College.

Tom really enjoyed the teaching side of Hartpury and also started buying and selling young horses but after a while Tom got itchy feet and wanted to explore more of the Equine Industry so he left Hartpury.

Tom then went to work for the Gibsons of West Kington and they helped him learn that if you want something in life you have to go for it. So he did.

Tom set up his own business “Tom Searle Equestrian” and was based at Ivyleaze Farm and he rode part time for Jane Holderness Roddam.

Tom then spent two years in Acton Turville buying and selling horses and then moved to Berekley to a bigger yard as the business was expanding. Whilst Tom was there he taught for Severn Vale Riding Club, Cheltenham Riding Club, and Minchinhampton Pony Club.

The opportunity then arose for a move to Stockley Farm, Wiltshire, so since August 2011 that is where Tom has been based. At Stockley Farm the facilities are superb and are perfect for training both the horse and rider.

Tom regularly teaches both private lessons and small groups at his yard in Stockley, Nr Calne, Wiltshire and runs clinics at various venues. Please see training dates or call 07967 150693 for more information about clinic dates and prices.
